Etymology[]
Origin[]
Ooze Zat is based on the abura-sumashi ("oil presser"), the mysterious youkai from Kumamoto. Almost all information about this youkai was lost, save for the possibility that he was originally the ghost of a monk who stole the oil to fuel lamps and escaped into the woods: at the time oil was extracted from tea seeds and very difficult to produce, making oil theft a serious crime. Sometimes elderly women of Kumamoto will tell others "You know, there used to live an abura sumashi around here...", only for the youkai to call out from the woods saying "I still do!"
