A Very Yo-kai Christmas (Japanese: クリスマスにも妖怪がいっぱい! Kurisumasu ni mo Yōkai ga Ippai!), The Koma-Santa Clause (Japanese: 今年のサンタはコマサンタ Kotoshi no Santa wa Komasanta), and Yo-kai Ol' Saint Trick (Japanese: 妖怪サンタク老師 Yōkai Santakurōshi) is the 49th episode of the Yo-kai Watch anime series. It was broadcasted in Japan on December 19, 2014, and in the United States on December 3, 2016.

Summary[]

Nate goes out to pick up his family's Christmas cake but find that the town is once again overrun with Yo-kai. Meanwhile, Komasan and Komajiro try to deliver presents for Santa Claus. Nate's mom is possessed by the Yo-kai Ol' Saint Trick, who makes him answer three questions, or else he will be sucked up into one of his bags.

Trivia[]

  • This episode marks the first appearance of Komasan's small green sling pouch, since it was given as a gift from Komajiro. He would continue to wear it in all future episodes.
  • This episode can be seen as how people celebrate Christmas in Japan.
    • Nate notices Happierre inspiriting a couple by making the atmosphere all joyful. It's because Christmas is seen as a romantic holiday rather than religious, as only one quarter of the Japanese population practice it.
    • Christmas cake is prepared by professional bakers and usually gets delivered to houses in time for Christmas Eve. It has chocolate and strawberry toppings, as well as some fruit filling on the inside.
    • Santa Claus usually leaves one present behind little children's pillows, as seen at the end of the episode.
  • This is one of the possible episodes that could take place before Yo-kai Watch: The Movie, because Komasan gets his small green sling pouch in the second segment. Also, the beginning and the end of the episode takes place at night.
  • The scenes where Nate answers questions while Lily Adams is possessed by Ol' Saint Trick references Who Wants to be a Millionare?.
  • Komasan's Segment name in English may be a reference to the live-action movie series of a similar name.

Dub Differences[]

  • The New Year's Meal was changed to Japanese takeout and the variety sushi was changed to tuna casserole.

Errors[]

EP049 dub edit error
  • In one shot of Nate's mother giving him a quiz on what they're having for dinner, the dub leaves the answer selection text on the stand (in front of Nate) blank; but as the camera pans out, the Japanese text can be seen in a fixed rectangular area for a brief time.
