Trivia

  • Its random names are: Gnorman, Nigel, Jack, and Gnollan.
  • Nathaniel's friend looks like him

Gnomey is based on the zashiki-warashi (Japanese: 座敷童 or 座敷童子), a child-like humanoid youkai that takes residence in large houses with zashiki (traditional guestrooms paved with tatami mats).

This youkai will inhabit those rooms and will rarely be actually seen. The house's guests will only hear the sound of little bare feet treading the tatami mats, and occasionally fall victim to their innocent pranks. It is said that so long as they stay in the house, the residing family will be blessed with good luck.

Those who have gotten used to their presence will leave out snacks and candy as small presents, which the zashiki warashi will happily accept.

Name Origin

  • "Gnomey" is a portmanteau of gnome and homey.
