Prior Events[]

When Kanami was young, she gained an interest in ballet after watching dance classes at a school and took classes instructed by a teacher named Sae Kinoshita. Kanami gained immense skill at her hobby over the course of several years, and won several awards. She was suddenly hospitalized after getting hit by a truck when crossing the road in the middle of a stormy night, breaking her legs and having her recover in a coma.

The incident made Kanami fall into a deep feeling of frustration and sadness, where she lashes out at anyone who came to see her and assumes that she would be forgotten after not doing any ballet for a long time. Wishing that she wanted things to go back the way it was, she suddenly discovers a storefront with a whale and pen insignia on its sign and unexpectedly gains the ability to connect the real and animated world together.

Kanami soon realized how freer she felt in the animated world and wished to never go back, while also having a desire to get rid of the real world she has originally come from. She practiced her ballet in mid air, in the animated world.

M03[]

Nate, Jibanyan and Whisper meet Kanami on the rooftop of a hospital in the real world, where she exclaims about wanting to go back and how the animated world makes her feel better about being free, using Narwail's powers to turn the world animated again. Kanami tries to get away from Nate and the others while telling that she doesn't need help, but is stopped when Nate can use Koalanyan as their advantage to switching the world to its real state.

Kanami, under being inspirited by Tattletell tells the truth to Nate and everyone else about why she's using the world-switching powers while also revealing her ability to take control of the world via Narwail's powers. Her heart is suddenly filled with darkness, from the grief of her worries and frustration which ended up connecting the two worlds together. She is found by Venoct, whom is one of Nate's Yo-kai friends and all come together to stop her.

Their attacks prove to be no usage towards Narwail, where Kanami regenerates the Yo-kai every time they get hit and even swallows up Darkyubi and Illuminoct. Nate ends up using the Yo-kai Bazooka to successfully defeat Narwail, where the Yo-kai ends up transforming into Whaleman and Kanami takes full control of him. After a series more futile attempts to take down the Yo-kai, Whaleman is finally stopped by Ultimate Robonyan using the powers from a mysterious potion Usapyon from Hailey's drastic experiments.

Finally admitting defeat, Kanami exclaimed that she the real world to be gone forever and preferred doing ballet in the animated world, but Nate tries to change her mind by saying that the feelings and support from Kanami's friends and family as well as her ballet instructor would be gone. She feels worried about everybody forgetting about her ballet, except that Nate learned from Kanami's teacher she is always waiting for her to come back. Kanami bids her farewell to Nate where she goes back to the real world she came from.

In the credits scene, she is shown to have recovered from her injuries and is doing ballet again.
