Robonyan is a blue-and grey robotic cat-hybrid Yo-kai that shares several similarities with Jibanyan such as yellow eyes with a silver ring around them, a red circle where his aqua-colored bell is present, a maroon jetpack worn on his back, red flame on his tails rather than blue and parts attach to others like his arms and legs that connect to his hands and feet.
Though Robonyan doesn't really openly display his emotions as he's a robot, he has a tough and determined attitude especially when he follows Nate's orders and going out of his way to fullfil them with his advanced plans and machinery he possesses. Despite the occasional mistakes he makes, he still goes on with it and tends to never gives up.
As Robonyan is technologically-advanced compared to most other Yo-kai, he can do all sorts of stuff such as creating Chocobars entirely from scratch using his machinery inside of him and transform into objects such as either for transportation or kitchenware uses. Instead of Jibanyan's signature Paws of Fury move, he fires rockets from paws like projectiles when used in combat.
Profile[]
Yo-kai Watch[]
Robonyan rarely appears in trash piles and dustbins in the Construction Site at night in Downtown Springdale.
Robonyan can be befriended automatically in a quest started by Toiletta in the Harrisville school. He can also be befriended during a quest in Breezy Hills.
Yo-kai Watch 3[]
Robonyan can be freed from the Crank-a-kai with a One-Star Coin.
Yo-kai Watch 4[]
Robonyan can be found in Enma's Palace (Future). He can be freed from the Yo-kai World Crank-a-kai with an Old Coin as a first prize or a Five-Star Coin or One-Star Coin as a second prize. He can also be freed from the future Crank-a-kai with a Five-Star Coin or One-Star Coin as a second prize.
Robonyan's name is a contraction of Robot and nyan.
Origin[]
Robonyan is a parody of the T-800, the titular evil/heroic android model in the Terminator franchise. As shown, both are robots from the future and are known for their signature catchphrase "I'll be back!" (which Robonyan uses mostly whenever he leaves through his portal), his musical theme sounding similar to the Terminator theme and his ability to melt and shape-shift into anything.
Trivia[]
In the Japanese version of the first Yo-kai Watch video game, as well as with the Yo-kai Watch toy and medal, Robonyan speaks with a high-pitched and vaguely feminine voice similar to Jibanyan's, but it was changed to a deeper, more masculine voice beginning with Yo-kai Watch 2 and the Yo-kai Watch anime series, possibly to draw more ties to the Yo-kai's reference material.
In English Yo-kai Watch media, however, Robonyan is consistently given a deep voice, originally being performed by Danny Katiana but changed to Joey D'Auria beginning with the anime series.
Despite sharing many similarities, and saying he is Jibanyan, Robonyan is not Jibanyan.
This is proven by his Medallium entry.
Prior to Yo-kai Watch 3, which introduced Kyubot and Venoctobot (the 'Merican robotic variants of Kyubi and Venoct), Robonyan is the only robotic doppelganger that belongs to a different tribe from his organic counterpart.
Despite being a robotic counterpart to Jibanyan, he is the only Yo-kai who doesn't have a non-rare Yo-kai counterpart of himself.
In the Japanese premiere for the film Terminator: Genisys, Akihiro Hino met actor Arnold Schwarzenegger on the red carpet with someone dressed in a costume of Robonyan.[1]
Robonyan's "random" nicknames in Yo-kai Watch 2 are: Robocat, Arnold, J-8OO, and Astro.
Astro is a reference to the titular character from Astro Boy who is also a robot.
Arnold refers to Arnold Schwarzenegger, who plays the signature T-800 model of Terminator. Another is J-8OO with the J possibly referring to Jibanyan.
Robonyan's Rocket Punch is a reference to one of the Mazinger Z signature attacks.
Robonyan's transformation into vehicles is a reference towards the Transformers series, a franchise both Hasbro and Takara Tomy own.
The way Robonyan shouts out "Transform" is a nod for the Japanese translation of the series, as the Transformers character shout out when transforming between modes. This can also relate to "Transform and roll out" for the English.
Robonyan's backstory of how he became a cyborg is similar to how the Cybermen from Doctor Who convert into cyborgs. Like Robonyan, they got their emotions removed and have blank stares to represent they're emotionless.
The conversion unit that was used to convert Jibanyan is similar to the ones used by the Cybus Cybermen.
