Shien (Japanese: 紫炎 Shien) is a Rank S Yo-kai of the Mikado tribe who first debuted in Yo-kai Watch: Forever Friends.
In Yo-kai Watch: Wibble Wobble, he is a Rank SSS Yo-kai of the Enma tribe.

Biology[]
Shien is a brown-skinned humanoid Yo-kai who was previously Ancient Enma's son until he got corrupted by vengeance, turning him into Maou Shien then becoming infused with Alistair which birthed Lord Enma. He has black eyes with slightly reddish pupils, purple eyebrows that flow upwards like flames, and thick dark grey hair, with the front bangs held by a small silver headband with 4 colored beads. He wears a long dark purple robe filled with various brown swirl accents around his three-spiked sleeves, brown bands, two designed shoulder pads, and a white cloth tied below a dark spiky purple collar tied to a small brown circle and ring. He wears a large belt with a scary looking skull with dark magenta eyes, with its upper and lower jaw divided, and surrounding a grey circle with spikes and a magenta dot, beside the skull are 4 different colored wisps, being purple, red, blue, and green. Below the belt is a blue cloth connected to the end of the robe and a green loincloth with 4 diamond holes and two smaller purple ones at the end with brown lines at the side. He wears baggy purple pants that end into a dark color with cloud designs at the bottom and wears purple shoes with gold rings above them.

Yo-kai Watch 4[]
During the main events of YW4, Shien's story plays the same as in M05, ending with him and Alistair's soul fusing into Yasha Enma and later the two died.
In the Plus Plus version, there's a chance to befriend Shien by clearing the Busters mission called The Demon King who Sleeps in the Sun's Shadow (Japanese: 日の影に眠りし魔王 Hi no Kage ni Nemurishi Maou)
When Shien is befriended, Enma reveals that due to a hex that is only known to the Enma clan, called the Shadow History (Japanese: 影歴史 Kagerekishi), all history records and everyone's memories of Shien were erased, saying that not even he or Zazel could remember Shien, and that it was thanks to Overseer altering history that the hex was undone.
After the death of his father and himself, his nephew, Lord Enma (Kouen), took the role as king of the Enma Clan, but Kouen was not ready and Zazel was weaken after the fight. They both fled to gather strength, and Zazel went to train Kouen, but soon grew angry at him thinking for himself.
Decades after his birth, and the birth of Kouen, Shien's little brother Lucas was born in the Yo-kai World. Where and when he was born are largely unknown, but he was sent to the human world after the death of his father, Ancient Enma. Lucas was sent to the human world to make sure he was safe from the new self-appointed Chairman Squiddilius McKraken. From that point on, he ended up living the life of a regular human being.

Yo-kai Watch: Forever Friends[]

Shien in the anime.
He is the son of Ancient Enma and a candidate for becoming the next Great King. He believes that the secret to being a true king is to harbor great power, and thus asks Tamamo to steal souls to strengthen himself, under the pretense that it is an order from Ancient Enma. During the Enma Budokai, he faces off against Ancient Enma, who calls him out on that being a true king is not about strength at all, Shien defeats Ancient Enma but is later overcome with the The Gloom and becomes Maou Shien. Alistair, who had realized that he actually died after trying to save his sister and was brought back as a spirit with the help of Kukuri-hime, takes upon himself to save Shien's soul, when Alistair located Shien's soul among all other grieving souls that had been absorbed, he fuses with it and becomes Yasha Enma.
After defeating Overseer, Yasha Enma dies and later is reborn as Lord Enma.

"Shien" is written with the kanji (Japanese: 紫 purple) and (Japanese: 炎 blaze).

A slightly earlier design for Shien, with a differently-colored robe.
- Shien being Ancient Enma's son would contradict Enma's statement about his grandfather not having any male sons before Lucas in Yo-kai Watch 3, however, it is revealed, in Yo-kai Watch 4, that the memory of Shien had been completely erased from history, explaining why no-one mentioned him.
- In the October 2018 article detailing Shien's voice actors on Oricon, an artwork where Shien has a plum-colored robe is accidentally shown instead.[1]
